Well, I thought we were going to have a peaceful afternoon, but no. I took Neal out for a walk and was sitting on the neighbor's steps beside him. He jumped down beside the steps and then jumped backward about three feet.
When I got up and went over to see what was going on, there was an enormous snake stretched out right next to the side of the steps. I grabbed Neal and took him inside and then went back, but the snake was gone. I'm not very good at identifying snakes, but I had another Burmese cat named Cuba who died from a snake bite, so I proceeded to get hysterical.
Off we went flying with the sirens on to the local cat clinic (Coastal Cat Clinic in case you ever need it). We don't think he was bitten because there was no swelling anywhere and no elevated heart rate and no dilated pupils. Dr. Ryan said he looked "bored."
So, here we are now, in bed working. I'm watching Neal and waking him up every half hour to make sure he's alright. I think he thinks I've lost my mind.
I think when your cat has a run-in with a snake they ought to give you a free Percocet at the vet's office.
If anything happened to the cat I think they'd have to put me down as well.
Oh well. As Scarlett says: Tomorrow is another day.
