"In This our Life" The novel can be picked up at the St. Simons Public Library, or ordered from Amazon. It can also be downloaded from Kindle. See also the marvelous George Brent, Charles Coburn, Billie Burke and Dennis Morgan. Hattie McDaniel is also in the film. She didn't have a large part as she did in "Gone With The Wind" but she's still a reliable character actor. Part of the reason she doesn't have a larger part is that the Hollywood folks changed the novel and left out a couple of fascinating sub-plots. The racial sub-plot is one of them. I would have loved to have been able to see it depicted, but it would also have made the movie longer and I'm not sure 1942 was a time in which audiences would have accepted it. The racial comment is well observed. Hope to see you. Great, fun, free-flowing discussion followed by the free-flowing of food and drink at Mullet Bay. 2:00, 17th and 19th St. Simons public Library |
