I Wish I hadn't Asked

Mom said that immigrants helped make this country what it is and (a little rudely, I think) pointed out that I"m Burmese.

She also said that the Mexi's worked much harder than i did and had less benefits.

She reminded me again of free health care, dental care, cooking, cleaning, massage therapy, intellectual enrichment, walks, glasses of ice water beside the bed, brushing, Temptation treats, baby food, those little envelopes of broth - on and on and on.

She said that immigrants by and large did jobs that Americans wouldn't do, worked very hard and just wanted to do better for their families.  She said that fruit would rot in the fields if migrant workers didn't pick it.

I wish I hadn't asked.  Besides, I don't like fruit.

I just don't understand why they have to come to our house and why they can't be quieter.

I'll be up all day.
