Protecting the Georgie Shrimp Harvest

These are shrimp boats waiting in line in Darien, a little community just north of St. Simons Island.

Because of colder temperatures, Georgia is now having to consider closing waters 25 miles off shore to shrimp fishing.  This measure is sometimes necessary to protect white shrimp which will move out into deeper waters to protect themselves from the cold.  But, these shrimp are necessary to ensure a spring harvest of plump eatable sized shrimp.  (For more information see Michael Hall's article in the Brunswick News for Monday).
